What Beach Will I Surf On?
Its one of those questions that you can never give a definitive answer to; I could tell you today to go surf on the hottest beach, in the hottest country for surfing and it could turn out to be a big disapointment; what matters is perserverance and dedication to the sport/hobby (whatever you treat it as!).
Do I need massive waves to learn?
No! Of course not; infact stay the hell away from the big waves until you can properly find form and direction on your board, look for mushy waves, easy not threatening waves are the place to learn – not only do the reduce the chance of injury but you wont look as bad on a smaller, slower wave! Not only that but when I learned I tried to surf in the biggest baddest spot where some tough looking guys were managing to surf sublimely; the looks that I recieved made me think twice again about getting in their way – seriously; go for the smaller waves because it does annoy other surfers – they feel the need to look out for you which is not why they are out there.
You Really Need an Ocean…
Of space of course, find somewhere depopulated and get going; dont get in the way of anyone else and you will have a much happier experience! Another point I would like to make before I finish this drone about beginners is that you need a buddy; its safer – you can compare technique and grow in confidence together – do it and you wont be disapointed!
